FAQ for Therapist

Do you offer free consultations?

Yes, we do. We offer free 20 minute phone, video, or in person consultations, depending on your preference and our availability.

What happens during a consultation?

In the 20 minute consultation, we will take time to learn a little bit more about you, your presenting concerns, and your goals for counseling. We will also allow time for you to ask any questions you may have about us (our theoretical approach, our skill set, our experience, our specialties, prices, scheduling etc.), Ultimately, at the end of the consultation, we will let you know if we feel comfortable and competent helping you in the area you are desiring assistance, and if we have the availability to meet your needs. And you will let us know if you feel we are the right fit for you. It is equally important that you as the client feel a sense of confidence and connection to your therapist, as it is important that the therapist feel confident and competent in treating you. If we both feel comfortable and confident moving forward, we will schedule your first appointment (the “intake” appointment).

Do I have to complete any paperwork before our first appointment?

Yes, we ask that you complete all the required forms electronically at least 24 hours prior to your first appointment.

What happens during the first appointment?

During your first appointment, we will review your completed paperwork, secure a form of payment to keep on file, and will complete a more comprehensive assessment of your presenting concerns, demographics, biopsychosocial history, and goals for counseling. We will use this time to mostly gather information to help inform our next steps best. We will use this time to get to know you, your story, and your hopes moving forward.

What happens during regular appointments?

Typically, your therapist will start the appointment by checking in to see how you have been experiencing your week. Your therapist will review and summarize your last appointment, and will explore current strengths and challenges. Your therapist will work with you to help you process, explore, gain clarity, and learn skills as needed in the areas you most want. The sessions are guided by the therapist, but catered to YOU.

How often are sessions, how long are sessions, and how long does treatment last?

Here at FOR YOU Counseling and Coaching, we customize plans made just FOR YOU, based on your specific needs, availability, and goals.

However, typically, your therapist may recommend sessions begin at a rate of once per week for 50 minutes to help establish a baseline and to help catch initial traction and momentum towards your goals, and will go from there. Your therapist will consistently check in with your progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed. Typically treatment ends when the client feels satisfied their goals have been achieved and their needs have been met.

While the clinician will offer recommendations for frequency and duration of sessions, ultimately the client has the right to adjust their frequency and duration of sessions, and has the right to end their treatment when they see fit. We support YOU and what you feel is BEST. We are here to help inform you, and provide helpful feedback along the way as needed.

What happens when I am ready to end counseling?

When you are ready to end counseling, you can simply let your therapist know. Achieving goals in counseling is exciting, and catching momentum feels great, and at the same time goodbyes can be bitter sweet. Your therapist will help prepare you as needed for termination of your sessions and will take time to help reflect your growth, strengths, and instill confidence in your next steps moving forward.
